Tonight, you can rest knowing God notices every detail you carry.
TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE
“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God” (Luke 12:6).
SOMETHING TO PONDER
Last summer, I was really stressed out. In between book pitches, re-written manuscripts, and back-to-back podcast recordings, I felt worn and faded. I was that old t-shirt you keep wearing, but really know you should throw away. But instead of giving in to my old coping skills and continuing to push myself past my breaking point, I decide to go for a walk.
While walking through the neighborhood, I picked up my pace. I stared at the sky, watched the ducks in the pond, and laughed at the frogs making nosies at me as I passed by. Typically, I took my phone on walks. I could get exercise and multitask. But today was different. I needed a reset. I needed to be present with God.
The longer I walked, the deeper I prayed. I started to notice birds in the trees. The sweet songs they sang. I even noticed buildings and structures I’d somehow missed in the past. But what I saw next stopped me right in my tracks.
As I made my way off the beaten path and into the grass, a full-size candy bar mocked me. It was huge. Bigger than my hand. And even though I didn’t like candy, I picked up the neatly wrapped bar and smiled. I had just been asking the Lord to show me the next details of my life, and here He was giving me a random candy bar I wouldn’t eat.
My point is this: Tonight you can rest knowing God notices every detail you carry. Because He does. And in the midst of my anxiety, He blessed me with a treat. Something I wouldn’t have seen if I’d been on my phone or not paying attention to the moment.
This life can get so busy, hectic, and overwhelming. I get it, and I know you do, too. But Luke 12:6 reminds us that if God cares about the birds of the sky, He surely cares for us.
“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God” (Luke 12:6).
Friends, I don’t know what burdens you’re carrying today, but I know this: God cares for your whole life. From the silly things you think don’t matter to the big deal moments you’ve been replaying in your mind for weeks. God cares about all of it because He created every inch of you. And when you’re wrestling with these things, He wants you to bring them to His feet. And there, His presence will sit with you. Remind you. Care for you. That He’s here.
The God who cared enough about my stressful day to bring me some chocolate surely cares about you in yours. The question is, will you be present enough to notice?
