“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-10, NIV).
Before I met my husband, the years seemed to be ticking by on when I’d finally have a boyfriend. 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, I’d ask my mom to predict how I’d meet my Prince Charming and pray it would magically come true. While it was all fun and games, the reality was that I was discontent with being single. God knew that until I was willing to surrender my future relationships to Him, it wouldn’t be time to meet the Mr.
It sounds cliché, but after I surrendered these desires to the Lord, I met my future husband a few weeks later. This isn’t everyone’s story—there are many Christians who have fully given their heart’s desires to the Lord and are still waiting on someone special. I’m not to say how God decides when we’re ready and when we’re not. But I do know two things:
1. I empathize with those of you who are patiently (or maybe not so patiently) waiting.
2. God’s timing is better than we could ever ask, think, plan, scheme, or imagine (Ephesians 3:20).
