When most people think of the military, they think of those fighting over seas and in foreign lands. But what happens when a U.S. aircraft goes down in enemy territory and is captured? According to CBN News, a recent rescue of a downed U.S. airman in Iran did the impossible: something “no other military could have pulled off.”
On April 10th, 2026, reporter Caitlin Burke of CBN noted that upon notification of the landing, rescue teams were in the air within an hour. Retired Air Force Pararescue team leader Steven Nisbet, and founder of Shields & Stripes, explained the mission this way:
“You had two different teams go out there…those are the first ones that you saw on those videos flying over the land in the daytime.”
While the first team included pararescue teams (PJs), the second team included PJs , combat controllers, and SEAL Team 6 members.
“The complexity, I mean, 150 aircraft coordinated overhead, that is a, that is a coordination exercise that even the best of organizations would fail at,” said retired Navy SEAL Mike Sarraille, the Chief Talent Officer for Overwatch.
