In Atlanta, Georgia, a community is mourning the loss of a math teacher and coach at North Hall High School. The culprit? An 18-year-old charged with vehicular homicide in a tragic prank gone wrong.
On Friday, March 6th, 2026, student Jayden “Jay” Wallace and his friends decided to play a prank on their beloved teacher, Jason Hughes. Though this teacher “meant the world” to him, Wallace wanted to throw toilet paper at Hughes’ house as part of their junior/senior prank.
Rather than an angry confrontation, the father of two was “excited and waiting to catch them in the act,” his wife, Laura, told The New York Times.
Unfortunately, at 11 pm that evening, Hughes confronted the teens and was run over when the teens got into their cars and began driving away. According to Atlanta News, “Hughes tripped and fell before being run over. Wallace was charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree.”
Upon learning of the incident, Wallace’s family expressed deep remorse. “He took the time to invest in Jay and poured his love into him, making a lasting impact,” the family said.
